How I (Finally) Got Good SkinI get lots of compliments on my skin in my photos. I got told yesterday on my latest set how nice it was. I won't ever deny it; I use photoshop to take out distracting blemishes, but for the most part, my skin is how you see it. I wanted to go into a bit more depth on how I got to this place. This journal may get a bit gross at times, just sayin'
My skin was not always baby-smooth. Throughout my teenage years I had what is known as cystic acne.  Life was depressing. I can't say which kind of acne is worse, all-over surface type, or one single giant zit-from-hell in the middle of your forehead. I had the second kind. I was extremely self-concious, and I wouldn't have dared to take stock photos had I not found a way to clear up my skin. Day-to-day, I took my stress out by picking at my skin. You can't see it in my photos now, but I do have some permanent damage from skin-picking. It's a reminder that self-harm is self-harm. You don't have to be taking a razorblade to you

I know there are a million "how to be popular" guides on DA and a million more parody versions of them. This article isn't about becoming popular, or starting drama or racking up pageviews as fast as possible for the sake of seeing a larger number.
This article won't make your art better, or make you more a more popular personality. However, what I've noticed is that many artists are missing out on feedback and exposure that they should be getting if not for a few common mistakes. Time after time, I've read on Artist's Confessions, or just browsing through members' personal journals that their gallery doesn't recieve any traffic and they can't improve because they're not getting any feedback. They feel like their lack of popularity is a personal statement. That their art isn't worth looking at. This is entirely untrue.
Hopefully this will help you, the underexposed artist, to b

Get Better At Drawing (Without Drawing Anything)Art is a process.
Like that of the scientific method and philosophical alchemy, art can be refined and improved through process. From observation, to experiment, to reflection and conclusion, art is improved by the steps we make towards change, not solidification and stagnation. Much of the advice out there for drawing is simply “practice” or “avoid distractions”. This advice is good, but there is more to creation than just throwing yourself mindlessly into a task and avoiding bad habits along the way. Good habits and knowledge will help to excel your learning process faster, and from that, improve faster and more effectively.
Look at it
As an artist, observation is key. The skill we develop is not just seeing, but interpreting what we see, remembering what we have seen and recording it in the form of visual art. This is a skill that, aside from blindness or vision degradation, you will be able to improve during your entire life. The way of seeing from an art

STOCK RULES

- Please credit me if you use one of my images. This means putting a link back to this profile somewhere near the finished piece.

Put a text link to my main profile OR use :iconrobynrose: (:icon robynrose: with the space removed)
Do not link to the stock piece you used, as I do delete old work I no longer like, and that leads to a dead link.

- Send me a note or comment linking me to the finished product. I would love to see what you've done. I always fave it!

- NO COMMERCIAL USE unless written permission is received. This includes turning creations into prints on DA. Please send me a note about commercial use, and what the project is about.

- My stock may not be redistributed, sold, or edited and redistributed or edited and sold. (In other words, you are not allowed to offer or sell my stock as your stock, edited or not. You are welcome to use it for creations)

Redistribution is defined as any posting of my own images, (including resized or unacceptibly low manipulation) to Deviantart or any other website.

DO NOT REPOST MY STOCK IMAGES ANYWHERE. NO TUMBLR NO FACEBOOK NO PINTEREST NO FORUMS OR PERSONAL WEBSITES. You may LINK to my stock, but no image posting.

My stock may not be used or reposted unedited. The purpose of my stock is for drawing reference. It is not free for use as graphics, icons, banners, aps, business cards, etc. If I find my stock used or reposted without my permission, especially commercially, I will file a DMCA takedown.

The art that you make FROM my stock may be shared, but you may not share my stock itself. Please link back to my site so that others become aware of my rules. They cannot follow my rules if they find my images on outside sites.

For pixel artists: This means you may use my stock to create dolls, with credit, but not doll bases.

My stock may not be used to make tutorials, including photo editing tutorials. This falls under reposting my stock unedited.

- I would appreciate it if my stock wasn't used for any hateful, pornographic, violent or obscene creation. Of course, this is very difficult to even define, much less enforce, so I just ask you to use your judgement when using my stock.

In the end, I reserve the right to ask anyone to remove any artwork using my stock that I feel breaks these terms of use.

- My stock is intended for art reference and use in photo manipulations. It is not free pornography. I am NOT a fetish model. I will NEVER do nude photos. Ever. Don't ask.

- DO NOT add my stock to "hot girl" folders or fetish folders. Feet, vore, inflation, etc. NO. You can have your fetish and kink but keep me out of it. This goes for favourites or art. I'm really strict about my no-porn rule.

- PLEASE DON'T make comments about my body. Even comments you think are compliments. I don't need to hear that I have a "nice ass". Keep it about the art.

- Questions and comments about anatomy and poses are fine. "Why is your shoulder bent?" or "are you locking your elbow when you hold it?" are perfectly acceptable comments.

- Not all images on this account are stock images, so if you cannot download it, it's not stock.

- Blocked users are automatically forbidden from using my stock.
Long story short, I'm losing The Great Loftspace.

The loftspace is the photography room that exists in my parents house, and I have moved out to live in Vancouver.
Now, that house is being sold, and so it is the end of the lovely grey loft with the big natural light windows.

But that's not the end of my as an artist or photographer, it's just a time of growth and change
I've spent six months in the city intensely studying acting, and working towards becoming a working actor and model.
I've made lots of new friends in the city, and it's really opened up new doors for me.
As much as I love the country, there is just not a strong enough arts community to thrive here.

And I want to say, that, while I've been quiet for a long, long time, I have struggled with illness, both the physical illness of my mother and my own depression and anxiety about not being good enough. But this spring feels different. It feels happy. I feel like my joy and creativity have returned. I want to draw, and paint and photograph again. This feels like a time of great healing and growth for me.

I suppose now is the best time to finally tell you guys my real name. I'm Laura Auffray.
Wow. That was easier than I thought. Yep, I have a name, and now I'm trying to get it out.

Moving ahead, I'm really not sure what the future holds for me, but I'm looking forward to it. It feels like things might just turn out ok.
My new year's resolution is to eat more vegetables. Although I love the idea of going vegetarian or vegan, I know deep down in my heart that I simply love sweet mesquite BBQ ribs too much. So I compromised and told myself I would eat more vegetables to balance out my omnivore ways.

Squash! It's not just for putting by your front door in the fall!

IMG 249squash by RobynRose

Preheat oven to 400*F and place the rack in the middle.
Cut the squash in half and scoop out the insides.
Cut a small piece off of the bottom of the round side of each half, so that they don't roll around on the pan when facing up.
In a bowl, or in one of the squash halves if you're lazy, mix:
2 teaspoons margarine
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 clove garlic finely chopped (or a small squeeze of garlic paste in a tube)
1/2 tsp salt
Less than half a teaspoon, to taste:
Ground black pepper
Powdered ginger
"Italian seasoning" Which can include oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, sage (if you have those as separate bottles, feel free to sprinkle in)

Mash the butter mixture up with a spoon, or fingers if you haven't emptied the dishwasher yet.
Split the mixture between the two halves, coating the bowl and the inner side.
Lick fingers clean and place on a baking sheet in the oven for 45 mins to and hour.
Check halfway through and re-baste the sides if you feel like it.
